From Concept to Sanctuary: The Art of Luxury Interior Design

Debra L Harrington

Debra L Harrington

Founder & CEO

The spaces we inhabit shape the way we feel, think, and move through the world. At Debra, we believe interior design is not merely about arranging furniture or selecting paint swatches — it is about crafting environments that breathe, that hold memory, and that elevate the everyday into something extraordinary.

The Philosophy of Space

Every interior project begins with a conversation. Before a single fabric is chosen or a floor plan drawn, we sit with our clients and listen — truly listen — to how they want to live. Do they seek the calm of a quiet morning coffee ritual? The energy of hosting dinner parties that stretch past midnight? The sanctuary of a bedroom that feels like a retreat from the world?

These answers become the foundation of our design language. We do not impose trends; we translate desire into spatial reality.

Our approach draws from the belief that luxury is felt before it is seen. It lives in the weight of a solid brass door handle, the way afternoon light filters through sheer linen curtains, the subtle scent of cedar from a bespoke wardrobe. These sensory details are what transform a house into a home that resonates on a deeper level.

The Color Palette of Elegance

For our recent Pure Livingroom collection, we developed a signature palette that has since become synonymous with the Debra L Harrington interior aesthetic. Soft ivory and champagne form the base — warm, inviting, endlessly adaptable. Touches of blush add a whisper of romance without overwhelming the senses. And gold — never ostentatious, always intentional — provides the punctuation that elevates the entire composition.

This palette was born from extensive research into how color affects mood and behavior. Ivory promotes clarity and openness. Champagne evokes celebration and warmth. Blush introduces softness and emotional connection. Gold, used sparingly, triggers associations with quality and permanence.

The result is a space that feels simultaneously timeless and contemporary, familiar yet aspirational.

Materiality and Craft

A room is only as good as the materials that compose it. We source our textiles, woods, and metals from artisans who share our commitment to excellence. Italian marble quarried from the same hills that supplied Renaissance sculptors. Silk woven on looms that have operated for three generations. Leather tanned using vegetable dyes that deepen in character with age.

We reject the disposable culture of fast interiors. Our pieces are designed to last decades, to develop patina, to become more beautiful with use. A scratch on a walnut table is not a flaw — it is a chapter in a story.

This philosophy extends to our sustainable practices. We prioritize reclaimed woods, recycled metals, and natural fibers. Our manufacturing partners operate on renewable energy. Packaging is minimized and biodegradable. Luxury and responsibility are not opposing forces; they are partners in creating spaces that feel good in every sense.

The Design Process

A typical Debra L Harrington interior project unfolds over several months, each phase deliberate and thorough.

Discovery involves extensive client interviews, site visits, and lifestyle analysis. We photograph light patterns at different times of day. We measure acoustic properties. We catalog existing pieces that hold sentimental value.

Concept Development produces mood boards, material samples, and 3D visualizations. Clients walk through virtual renderings of their future spaces, experiencing scale and proportion before construction begins.

Implementation sees our team of designers, craftsmen, and project managers coordinate every detail. Weekly updates keep clients informed. Quality checks at every stage ensure nothing falls below our standard.

Completion is marked not by a handover, but by a walkthrough where we explain the intention behind every decision. We want our clients to understand their space as deeply as we do.

Current Projects

We are currently designing the interiors for a boutique hotel in the Cotswolds, a private residence overlooking the Pacific, and the flagship showroom for a heritage watchmaker. Each project demands a unique vocabulary while speaking the universal language of Debra L Harrington: elegance without excess, comfort without compromise, beauty without artifice.

The best interiors are not those that impress visitors, but those that embrace inhabitants. They hold the morning light just so. They make a simple dinner feel like an occasion. They provide the backdrop for lives well-lived.

That is the interior design we practice. That is the sanctuary we create.
